Two new projects for Vidya Balan

With the advent of a new year on Jan 1, Vidya Balan has ventured on new arenas. Vidya’s birthday falls on the 1st Jan itself and this year she went to Panchgani with her family for birthday celebrations. The New Year brought two new promising roles for Vidya. One is Nikhil Advani’s ‘Chand Bhai’ and the other is Vibhu Puri’s ‘Chenab Gandhi’. The latter is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. ‘Chand Bhai’ does not have Miss Balan in the central role and she gets to pair opposite Akshaye Khanna. The film is based on a delinquent boy’s character and has a social message attached to it.

Advani’s ‘Chand Bhai’ is a far cry from Advani’s last release ‘Chandni Chowk To China’. Says Vidya, “It’s nothing like the high-flying glam-wham stuff that one expects from Nikhil after Chandni Chowk. Chand Bhai is a stark very real kind of drama. And I get to co-star with a very talented actor Akshaye Khanna with whom I was in Nikhil’s Salaam-e-Ishq though we had just one passing shot together.”

Vidya is excited about ‘Chenab Gandhi’ too and says, “I haven’t really interacted that much with my co-star Hurman as yet. With Mr. Bachchan who plays the title role, I share a lifelong bonding. Right from Eklavya we’ve been paired in so many films right up to Chenab Gandhi and now Balki’s Pa. If I did all the films last year that I was offered with Mr. Bachchan, I wouldn’t be working with anyone else

Shilpa Shetty faces accent problem for ‘Desire’

Things are always as easy as they seem. This is the lesson which Shilpa Shetty has learnt recently for our sexy Bollywood lass is facing problems in delivering her dialogues for her next Indo-Chinese film ‘Desire’. Desire is her first international Indo-Chinese project where she plays a role of an Odissi dancer.

Though Shilpa informs that shooting for ‘Desire’ was a unique experience, it was not easy for her to get her classical dance steps correct and perfect. Moreover, speaking English without accent wasn’t easy for her.

Says, Shilpa “This is the first time I did dialogues in English and so did Xia Yu. Not as easy as I thought it would be, when you are so used to saying dialogues in Hindi. Both Xia Yu and I made such an effort not to speak the English language with an accent. But all’s well that ends well. I am happy I got to do this too.

Farhan for Kareena: Once a director now a co-star

This is a pair whom the fans will eagerly await to see on-screen. Farhan Akhtar who has once directed Kareena Kapoor in ‘Don- The Chase Begins Again’ will now be seen sharing screen space with her. We saw them together for just a few moments in ‘Luck By Chance’ but now they will be seen as the lead pair in Sudhir Mishra’s untitled venture. Produced by Excel Entertainment, company of Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, the movie will explore the man-woman relationship and its dynamics.

Farhan Akhtar has confirmed the news and is quite impressed by the script. He is all praises for Kareena too and says, “she’s been a friend for many years” and the film has her in “a role to die for”.

Sudhir Mishra has done ‘Chameli’ with Kareena but these are bad times for the director. His last release ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’ bombed at the box-office and he had to shelve ‘Aur Devdas’ after Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Dev. D’. Since both Kareena and Farhan are currently hot in tinsel town, lots of hopes are pinned on this project.

Freida Pinto Signs Woody Allen Movie!

orging on all the limelight brought in by the enormous success of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, hottie Freida Pinto bagged in another cake offered by legendary director Woody Allen. With the success of Slumdog Millionaire, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood movie offers start piling.

Woody, who is in this industry past four decades, has several hits, like ‘Annie Hall’ and ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ to his credit.

As the movie is still in its initial stages, it hasn’t been named as yet. The cameras will start rolling in this summer in London. Frieda co-stars with Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts and Josh Brolin. Though Woody Allen has been tight lipped about the movie, it is being described as a romance.

Priyanka and Kareena are pals once again

Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in all possibility have ended their two year long fight and have turned up pals again or so it seemed the way the two gorgeous ladies were spotted chatting away merrily at a FICCI event recently. Both Kareena and Priyanka were honored at the FICCI Frames and IIFA event for their contribution to the entertainment industry and the two had a great time together. The awards function was held to mark the 10th anniversary of Ficci-FRAMES and International Indian Film Academy. This is the first time the two ladies have been spotted talking to each other since their spat two years ago.

At this first FICCI- IIFA awards, Amitabh Bachchan, Shan Rukh Khan and eight other leading actors from the Bollywood were felicitated for the ‘Most Powerful Entertainers of the decade’. Others felicitated included actors Aamir Khan, Priety Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra

Anushka Sharma to chose the angels for Knights

SRK has come up with a unique idea this time to promote his IPL team ‘Kolkata Knight Riders’. He will choose the 6 leading cheer leaders for his team through a T.V. dance reality show called ‘ Knights and Angels’. The show will be hosted by Purab Kohli and will have Sourav Ganguly, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders as the judge. Pretty Anushka Sharma will be seen as the special celebrity judge in the first episode.

‘Knights and Angels’ will be a 6-episode series that will be telecast at 10.00 p.m IST every Saturday, starting 28th February 2009 on NDTV Imagine. The 24 short listed girls chosen through nationwide auditions will be mentored by ace choreographer Shiamak Davar.

Speaking at the launch Sourav Ganguly said, “I have never been a judge before. It’s equally exciting and nerve-wracking for me and I’m really looking forward to a whole new experience. Shah Rukh and Juhi have promised to guide me and I assure my Knights that we will find those ‘Angels’ that will cheer us to victory.”

Gone are the days when Mallika Sherawat’s ‘Khwahish’ created nationwide stirs due to as many as seventeen liplocks. In the days to come, Bollywood viewers are going to get their due visual treats of passionate steamy kisses in intense romance scenes.

The latest buzz in the B-town says that the kiss in Mallika Sherawat’s ‘Hisss’ will be the lengthiest kissing scene ever in Bollywood. That is what the buzz from B-Town is. However, it is not the sex kitten Mallika who will be seen locking her lips on-screen, but the artists in the stretched out lip locking scene are Irfaan Khan and Divya Dutta.

The film is being directed by the Hollywood film maker Jeniffer Lynch and Irrfan did feel jittery when Jennifer told him about the steamy scene with Divya. The director sensing that Irfan and Divya were quite tensed promised them that the scene will be taken care of in the most possible aesthetic manner. The scene was shot in Kerala. The actors had to do the act in front of the entire unit and not break the lip-lock until Jennifer Lynch asked them to do so

AR Rahman Two Oscar Awards

A R Rahman wins two Oscars awards as he wins the millions of hearts with his musical magic. A R Rahman won the best original song award for the song Jai Ho which was penned by Gulzar. While receving the first award he ended his speech as “Mera Pass Maa Hai” (I have my mom with me) and he dedicated his award to God as Yella Puzhalum Iraivanukke (all praises to God).

Ultimately, at Kodak theatre in Los Angles it turned out to be day for “SlumDog Millionaire” at 81st Oscar award ceremony, where the movie based on the plot of Mumbai, surrounded around a slum Boy’s tale of rising from rag to riches bagged eight Oscars out of 10 nominated categories.

“SlumDog Millionaire” won award as Anthony Dod Mantle for Best Cinematography, Simon Beaufoy for Best Writing & Screenplay, Resul Pookutty, Ian Tapp, Richard Pryke for best sound, Chris Dickens for Best Editing, AR Rahman for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. Movie also bagged award for Best Director given to Danny Boyle and The Best Picture award also retained by the movie.

Priyanka & Saif win the NDTV Profit Car & Bike Awards

Indian Business News Television Channel announced awards in various categories for automobile products on 20th February, 2009. While Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra won the award in best female model category for her Hero Honda Commercial Ad, Chhote Nawab Saif Ali Khan won the award in best male model category for his Chevrolet Car Commercial Ad. Mugdha Godse signs up a comedy opposite Ajay Devgan

Mugdha Godse has come a long way with her journey to Bollywood from ramp walking. After ‘Fashion’, she will be seen in ‘Jail’ with Neil Nitin Mukesh. Now, she has also signed a comedy film for Rohit Shetty opposite Ajay Devgan.

Confirms Mugdha, “Yes, it’s true that I have signed a Rohit Shetty film. The film is a multi-starrer along with Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan and myself.”

Mugdha is very pleased with the way her career is developing and is choosing her roles carefully. “The Rohit Shetty film is a comedy and it gives me a chance to do something different. Fashion, Jail and Rohit’s film are three different genres and it’s nice to know that you are getting to do diverse roles from the very beginning of your career. I’m just one film old.”

As she appears on the covers of ‘Stuff’ this month, Mugdha says that she wants to do roles with much weight. “I would like to play more author-backed roles in which the focus is more on the protagonist. I would like to do well in comic roles too,” says the girl

‘Heaven on Earth’ titled ‘Videsh’ for Indian territory

Deepa Mehta’s ‘Heaven On Earth’ starring Preity Zinta and newcomer Vansh Bhardwaj has already released in Canada getting an overwhelming response. The movie has also given Preity Zinta the ‘Best Actress’ award at the Chicago film festival and the nomination at the 29th Genie Awards (which is the Canadian equivalent to the Oscars).

Produced under the banner of BR Films, the movie will be released in Inida this March under the title of ‘Videsh’. Says Sanjay Bhutani, CEO of BR Films, “We did not want our Indian audiences to misinterpret the title Heaven on Earth and consider it to be an English film. Hence we changed the film’s name to Videsh as this would connect well with the Indian audiences.”

Well, as a special treat for the Punjabi film enthusiasts, ‘Videsh’ is going to be released in both Hindi as well as Punjabi

Tara Sharma’s loss is Minissha Lamba’s gain

They say to gain something you have to lose something. The saying goes well for actress Tara Sharma who got married to Roopak Saluja since November 2007 and is pregnant now. However, her pregnancy took toll on her acting career and the actress has to forego an important role in director Rensil D’Silva’s film on terrorism, starring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi. The actress has told producer Karan Johar and director Rensil about her condition and the duo have relieved Tara from the project.

Reportedly, Minissha Lamba has been roped in to pair with Vivek in the film now. But Tara has not lost everything. She will act in a film called ‘Suno Na’ in which she plays a pregnant woman. She is presently dubbing for a movie called ‘Mocktail

Kareena shoots underwater sequence for ‘Kambakhth Ishq

Sajid Nadiawala’s ‘Kambakhth Ishq’ has been much in news for its galaxy of international stars like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards in guest appearance. The film also stars Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, who plays a starlet. Recently, Bebo had much difficulty in shooting an underwater sequence for the film.

The scene which was shot at Goregaon Sports Club a few days back took close to six hours to be completed. It was a scene in continuation to a previous one shot in Italy.

Scuba divers and also her co-star Akshay Kumar were there to guide and encourage Bebo but the actress was feeling jittery underwater. She dived in as many as four times but quickly emerged back again because she was scared. Eventually, some water was reportedly taken out of the pool and after many retakes Kareena did manage to shoot the scene

First Look - Main Aur Mrs. Khanna

Kareena Kapoor is in news again for her forthcoming flick, ‘Main Aur Mrs. Khanna’ (previously named as Mr. and Mrs Khanna) where she is set to appear alongside Salman Khan and Sohail Khan. The movie which revolves around the age old theme of extramarital affairs has been directed by debutante Prem Soni. The film will be produced by Sohail Khan and Ronnie Screwvala under the banner of UTV Motion Pictures and is expected to release on June 12, 2009. Also, Preity Zinta will be seen in special item song while Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra will be seen in guest appearance.
